the court

A few months ago, listening to an interview with Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, Husain Haqqani stressed the importance of Pakistan’s judicial system as well as the Executive and the ministers. Today, in the NY Times, a few articles discuss the fragile state of the national courts in Russia. While we often view governments in terms of their executive leader or the effectiveness of their parliaments or legislatures, often focusing upon some of their ministers, cabinets, ambassadors, the subject of the “rule of law” and the courts rarely receives analysis. It can be a boring subject. But in these times when America wishes to “nationbuild”, assisting governments to nurture healthy judicial systems, developing judges could be a way to enhance the human condition along with enhancing security and representative governance.
