Holden’s children released his journals this week for sale at Sotheby’s. The auction takes place on Wednesday evening. The estimate is that the 17 volumes, written by Caulfield between 1973 and 2006, will fetch at least $1.4 million. Many hope that the perspective buyer will release the journals for scholarly research and eventual publication. His children intend to use the money from the sale to maintain Holden Caulfield Center at Pencey Prep in Agerstown, Pennsylvania.
Catcher in the Rye is one of my most favorite books of all time. Nobody has ever captured the awkwardness of becoming an adult like Caulfield.
