My mother loved going to the bird sanctuary in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. She also loved watching the herons in the Great Sound behind our “Seven Mile Island” (Avalon/Stone Harbor). Dad would park the black '63 Ford Falcon stationwagon on the side of the road and we’d quietly gaze for a few moments. Mom died in 1992. Dad still keeps her heron posters in the living room at the beach house.
