distractions

Victoria Barracks, Paddington, Sydney, Australia

Beneath my office window once, I had a wonderful distraction a few times a week. For certain, on Wednesdays, there were the changing-of-the-guard ceremonies from 10 to 11. And on Tuesday afternoons, the band rehearsed on the parade ground. They always began with a rousing tune but always ended their set with “Waltzing Matilda” as they marched off, beneath the arch just below my window. My window was atop the arch here, second from the left.
