Round Midnight, reading

Last night, I stayed up late reading a biography about Andy Warhol’s early years; “The Genius of Andy Warhol – POP" by Tony Scherman and David Dalton. Listened to some jazz by Ahmad Jamal, his early stuff. Thought about Thelonius Monk and his great piece called Round Midnight, listen here…from 1966 but first recorded by him in '44…covered by so many, but Monk’s mark, his touch here reminded me of Warhol’s raw basic drawings of clothing, that simple clear work, commercial yet full of the creators stuff, something different, of its time.
