The best years of our lives again

My Father’s favorite film. He saw action but this film had very little. It took me a few decades of repeated viewing to come close to getting it and him. This was on the road three years before Jack and Neal. Three people returning to a home that changed. Two could go home again. A third followed. Visible damage layered upon the confusion within.

No one need remake this in 3D with digitally enhanced flashbacks. Mr. Spielberg, step away from script you wonderful purveyor of violence packaged with a plastic heart, you. Let this one stay with its many shades of grey, shades we still ache to define today.

Are you ready for the best years of our lives again?
