the wind today

The wind carried all sorts of treasures in the air today. A large piece of clear plastic, about twenty feet long and a few feet wide, untwisted maybe, flew like a long snake north up Walnut street. The clear dancing shroud wrapped around a light pole for a moment and then snapped free, headed toward a truck and grabbed hold to the windshield. The driver stopped suddenly, stretched his arm out the window, pulled the plastic free and sent it flying high toward the skyscraper at 1101. It danced for a while in the swirling shelter of the south side of the building, reflected in the black glass. I think the plastic stringless pilotless kite rests now on someone’s condo deck, waiting to be rescued and used as a barbecue cover, maybe.
