breakfast in bed

There’s something precious about breakfast in bed. The whole idea suggests that there is time for the enjoyment and that it comes as a gift from someone. These days, it conjures images of a quiet Sunday morning, coffee, juice, fruit, muffins, and the NY Times spread about. A window of time without schedule. A pause in the week’s busy pace. Today is Mary Cassatt’s birthday. From the ways she portrayed mother and child, it appears that she understood the bonds, tensions, and wonder of being a parent.
